Q&A: What kind of health plan do rich people use?

Question by Elephant Polo: What kind of health plan do rich people use?
I’m a middle class student on my parent’s employer provided health plan: Kaiser Permanente, a large HMO. I don’t know much about the health care system. I’m just aware of university provided health care as another alternative. So I’m curious what kind of plan do rich people use?

The few rich people I know use HMOs, too. Where I live, the biggie is Blue Cross/Blue Shield. When they have the option, they may choose the BCBS plan where the person who uses medical services pays the highest deductible and/or co-pay (since they can afford it), keeping the monthly payment the lowest. Essentially, they’re betting on their own good health.

Of course, if they have a pre-existing condition and can anticipate medical expenses because of it, they may choose other versions.
